Today I went to a workshop on how to use and work audio equipment properly. This was a useful workshop for me to go to, as I will be using all different variations of audio equipment on my degree course. The workshop started by us being giving useful information about sound itself; i.e. best ways to record, what to look out for, and how to make sure we have the best quality recording. These tips were both educational and instructive as I will be able to use these in future project. Another tip we were told about was how to prepare for an interview, what to research and what to ask. make sure we have rehearsed questions, and use open questions i.e., who, what, where, when, which and why. The next part of the workshop was having a hands-on experience with the audio equipment – the equipment that we were using were the Tascam DR-40.

These audio devises have multiple features and we were told how to use the best ones. One of the main features was the way the 2 microphones where pointing. We were told what the different angles will capture and what we should use them for, for example; having them separated would be for group interviews or capturing ambient noises, while having them close would be to capture interviews, or direct sound with no interference. The final part of the workshop was to go out and capture our own audio clips, this could have been interviews, group chats or background noise. This was extremely useful as we could get a hands-on experience for ourselves on how to capture the audio and what we need to do to make sure the audio was crisp. The skills and tips I have learn today will help my progression on my course by allowing me to capture great audio and not have to re-do certain clips because it has bad quality. But, I also now know how to use the audio equipment correctly for future projects in my modules.
