Today I attended yet another work shop, and this one was on Adobe editing. This is a key skill that I wanted to improve as I will be using editing in all aspects of my media degree. Adobe editing can be hard to understand but once you get the basics its all down to experimenting. The first stage of the workshop was listening to pre-recorded audio and trying to find out where the audio had been edited. This seemed like an odd activity but proved helpful later in the workshop. The audio we listened to had many errors, and we were asked to find and explain what the error in the audio was. The next part was a demonstration on how to use the simple and key tools on Adobe audition, like the razor and cross fading.

We then had the task of editing multiple audio clips into the correct order, by taking out selected parts, to make the audio flow. One of the audio pieces was a poem called “The Executive” by John Betjeman, and the task required us to cut up the recording and re-arrange it to how it was shown . The final part of the workshop was to follow an advert script and place in the audio files to then edit into the right place. This part meant we had to use all the skills that we had previously been shown, and also use the fading tool, to change the levels of the audio too make it easier to listen too without the audio peaking and it being too loud, but also to fade music out and join them together to make smooth transitions. The skills that I learnt today will be key for future use as I will be editing my radio show, and 5-minute packages. These skills will allow me to piece together each clip to produce one seamless audio piece. Not only with audio but I can also use these skills on other adobe programs to edit different forms of media, such as videos on Adobe premiere pro.
